PILOT PROJECT INTO USE OF SIMULATION METHODS-VALUE OF TIME: DEVELOPMENT PROJECT STAGE 2 REPORT

AFTER SUMMARIZING THE RESULTS OF A STUDY OF THE FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MODAL CHOICE OF A SAMPLE OF COMMUTERS RESIDING IN THE LONDON BOROUGH OF REDBRIDGE, THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE AN INTERVIEWING DEVICE, THE PRIORITY EVALUATION, WHICH IS BASED ON THE GAME TECHNIQUE AND CAN BE APPLIED TO THE MEASUREMENT OF PREFERENCES IN THE CONTEXT OF MODAL CHOICE. AN EXPERIMENT IS DESCRIBED IN WHICH THE PRIORITY EVALUATOR WAS USED TO RELATE JOURNEY TIME TO OTHER FACTORS DETERMINING MODAL CHOICE. THE FIVE VARIABLES CHOSEN WERE: OVERALL JOURNEY TIME, FREQUENCEY OF GETTING A SEAT, DISTANCE OF RESIDENCE FROM STATION NUMBER OF CHANGES OF MODE, AND TOTAL JOURNEY COST. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE METHOD OF ANALYSING THE DATA COLLECTED AND OF THE CONCLUSIONS REACHED AS TO THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PRIORITY EVALUATOR AND METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS UTILIZED. A BRIEF OUTLINE IS APPENDED OF A PROPOSED METHODOLOGICAL EXPERIMENT WHICH IS TO BE CONDUCTED AMONG SELECTED MOT EMPLOYEES BY MEANS OF A FILTER QUESTIONNAIRE. SEE ALSO IRRD ABSTRACT NO 203623.
