Towards the design and evaluation of a cooperative advanced driving assistance system of space headway regulation
This paper presents the study of a particular form of human-machine cooperation in order to define and evaluate a system, which is able to control the space headway to vehicle in front according to the environment, the driver behaviour and the wish the driver has to cooperate with the system. We realized two experiments with a car driving simulator and 84 subjects. The results aimed at studying the behaviour of drivers during 36 driving situations, without and with an adaptive cruise control. The results concern information stemming from the analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data.
