Public Transit Access to Major League Ballparks
This paper provides a comprehensive summary of public transit service characteristics, special operations, and usage to the 30 major league baseball (MLB) ballparks that existed in 2007. An interesting array of different public transit services are described and analyzed. Game attendance, generalized ballpark location, public transit access features, and ballpark architectural style are examined in this paper as influences on transit mode split. Conclusions are drawn on the primary influences that contribute to higher transit usage to MLB games. Finally, based upon the analyses, general planning guidelines are proposed to help planners design new ballparks in order to attract higher percentages of event attendees to use public transit.
