Port Selection Factors and Attractiveness: The Service Provider's Perspective
This paper considers the role of factors which increase a port's quality of service, thereby making it more attractive and competitive. It also considers the different perspectives of service providers (port operators and authorities) and users (shippers and shipping lines). Time efficiency, delays and accessibility are primary factors for both providers and users. There are disparities in opinion, however, about the importance of monetary cost, location, and the speed with which ports can respond to changing demands of shipping lines.
