RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT OF FUTURE WIRELESS VEHICLE SAFETY COMMUNICATION (VSC) SYSTEMS USING AN INTERACTIVE SIMULATION PLATFORM
Our goal is to research and develop Vehicle Safety Communication (VSC) solutions for future safety needs by determining technology shortcomings and developing new countermeasures (algorithms and protocols). In this paper, we consider ways to combine communication and vehicle models to realize an interactive communication simulation platform that reflects the interdependence between vehicle motion and messaging, particularly in complex scenarios like a future intersection including many vehicles and multiple concurrent safety services. We discuss advantages of such a simulation and demonstrate results that reveal underlying performance issues that motivate our research and development of scalable solutions.
